About Us

Smina Poultry Products Ltd is a family-owned business operating a poultry slaughterhouse and a cut up plant in Malta.  It was set up by Mr Paul Spiteri and his late wife Josephine.  It is nowadays managed by their three children and their respective families.

Our vision and commitment

Our vision is to be a leading and highly regarded food company.  We are committed in providing fresh high quality locally farmed poultry to all customers.

100% Chicken

There are certain chicken producers that claim that their chickens are 100% natural chicken.  However if you look closely at their labels, you’ll notice that the product has been injected with water, salt and other ingredients, mainly to make their chicken look bigger, gain in weight and deceive their customers.  At SMINA, we promise that all of our products are 100% natural chicken, 100% fresh and delicious, locally produced with no added water or other ingredients.

Safe Handling

Chicken is very easy to prepare and safe to eat can recommended by many nutritionists to be included in diet plans.  Problems occur when there is improper handling or improper storage of the product.  Hereunder we are listing some simple guidelines that will help you to avoid such problems.

  1. Be sure to check the packaging and the label prior to purchase a product.  Inspect the chicken appearance.  Check what is written on the label such as the best before or use by date and the pack date.  On each packet of SMINA’s products you will also find a number starting PBxx-xxx-x, known as batch code.  This is crucial for full traceability of the product as it allows tracking of the product through all stages of production, processing and distribution.
  2. Store the chicken in the refrigerator or freezer immediately as you get home.  Fresh products can be stored in the refrigerator up till the best before date marked on the label.  Frozen products need to be stored in the freezer.
  3. If you need to thaw a product, do so in a refrigerator and not on the kitchen countertop.  Once you thaw a product, use it completely.   Do not refreeze the product.
  4. Always wash your hands, countertops, cutting boards, knives and utensils with hot soapy water before you touch any other food as this is the primary source of contamination.

The Maltese Islands

Malta, Gozo and Comino form part of the Maltese Archipelago, located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, just under Sicily.  Malta is the largest of the islands with a population of about 350,000 people and an area of just 316 square kilometers.  The capital city is Valletta, recently declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, full of history but at the same time it also serves as a commercial centre attracting both workers and visitors on a daily basis.

Malta has a subtropical-Mediterranean climate, with mild winters andwarm to hot summers.  Rain occurs mainly in winter, with summer being generally dry.   The National language is Maltese.  English is also recognized as an official language, and many Maltese also speak Italian.
